2025 CRSC Events

On September 30, CRSC invites you to join us in a celebration of regional public transit and public lands with a Week Without Driving Transit 2 Trails event!

We will catch the Scenic Mississippi Regional Transit (SMRT) bus in La Crosse between 9:45 and 10:15 (see detailed schedule below) and arrive in Coon Valley at about 10:40 a.m.

During our outing, we'll do a walking tour of an urban food forest and learn a bit about the Coon Creek watershed. We'll have a self-packed (bring your own) lunch in the park and do a walk on the paved, one-mile Veterans Memorial Park Loop which follows the Coon Creek where we'll learn more about some accessibility and sustainability efforts there. We'll also talk about the importance of regional public transportation when we return on the SMRT bus, arriving back in La Crosse between about 1:15 and 1:45 p.m.

Our guides will be board members of Coon Valley Community Watershed Council.

Chelsey Myhre-Foster was raised in the Coon Creek Watershed, a connection that continues to shape her commitment to community health and resilience. She currently serves as the Assistant Director of Access to Independence, a Center for Independent Living, where she works to advance disability rights, independent living, and inclusion. Chelsey also brings experience in harm reduction, library services, and community-based advocacy, paired with a strong background in fundraising, event planning, and grant writing. Her lifelong connection to the watershed grounds her belief in the power of collaboration to build thriving, accessible, and sustainable communities.

emje mccarty is a writer, artist, and forest gardener. She hopes to save the world through comics, zines, and native perennials. Her current projects include unschooling four children, writing her second novel, putting out a bi-monthly zine, and turning her yard into an urban food forest for teaching & foraging. emje lives in a 125 year old flood-damaged house in Coon Valley that she is very, very slowly rehabilitating (if you know a good handyman....) emje mccarty's work can be found at: mypunkrockmixtape.com

Local Governments and Climate Action. April 23 at Noon (Online) featuring the City of La Crosse, Monroe County, and the La Crosse School District  Register: tinyurl.com/25CRSCLocalClimate

According to the Rocky Mountain Institute, studies show that every $1 invested in climate resiliency can save up to $13 when a disaster occurs. As global warming and carbon emissions continue to rise, local governments are on the front lines of climate change consequences.

We will hear representatives from three Coulee Region governmental bodies about their efforts to deal with climate change and prepare for the future. Mackenzie Mindel is a City of La Crosse Council Representative and Chair of its Climate Action Plan Steering Committee. Joe Ledvina is Director of Facilities for the La Crosse School District and a member of the district’s Climate Action Plan team. Bob Micheel, Monroe County Land Conservation Department Director, was co-leader of the county’s Climate Readiness and Rural Economic Assessment, and is now a member of its Climate Change Task Force.

With national climate action in question, now more than ever, local action is needed. How can community members encourage and support our communities, schools, and counties to take action now? Please register for the link at
